A networking standard that uses cables to connect computers and devices.

A device that joins networks (for example, to connect your home network to the Internet). A router is also known as a gateway or base station.

When this occurs, disconnect from the network you do not want to use and keep the connection to your home network.

To do this, use the Control Panel in Microsoft Windows. The steps differ among Microsoft Windows versions.

1. In Microsoft Windows, click Start, and then click Control Panel.
   
   If you are using Windows XP's Classic Start menu, click Start, and then click Settings.
   
   Do the following, based on your Windows version:

 

If you are using Windows XP or Windows 2000

If you are using Windows 98 SE or Windows Me

1. Double-click Network Connections.

 

2. Carefully check the information about network connections.
   
   To display details about connections (rather than, for example, show connections as icons), go to the View menu and select Details.

 

3. Locate and right-click the connection you do not want, and then select Disable.

 

 

This procedure helps with a computer equipped with more than one network adapter.

1. Double-click Network. 

 

2. Carefully check the information about the network adapters listed.
   
   Determine which network adapter you do not want to use.

 

3. On the Configuration tab, locate the network adapter you do not want to use.
   
   Find the adapter by name. Ignore items listed with TCP/IP <NetworkAdapterName> names.

 

4. Select the network adapter name, and then click Remove.

 

5. Click OK.

 

6. Restart your computer.
   
   By doing this, Windows will try to connect using the correct adapter, and Network Magic will attempt to connect to the correct network.
